Anyone working in between Xmas and New year?

Don’t waste quality time with your kids working weekends.
You mention working in the rain, do it. Invest in 2-3 quality waterproof coats so you can change them during the day.
Also buy a cricket style waterproof hat. Baseball caps are no good as the water will run down your back.
Life is so short and flies by. Enjoy your weekends ?
Theres an old specials track for that which you will know, 'enjoy yourself'

Hi just wondering if anyone is working in between Christmas and New year, I usually take a week off but I can’t really afford to take time off this year, so was gonna just try and do the 27th 28th and 29th. do customers usually mind if you come then? Was gonna maybe message all jobs due next week with the option to come next week or the first week of January.
I do! Many i know do too!

Yeah but I got Covid last week so I’m behind ?
Plus by day 4 I will be twiddling my thumbs bored so may as well go back to work
Me too, not covid as I wouldn’t take time off for that anyway but lost four days and a £900 bill to get my van sorted inbetween nov/dec so could’ve done with the coin but more important things having young children at this time of year so feck the bills, they can wait.
Merry Christmas everyone???

Why bored, have you only work in your life, no hobbies etc?
I’m not being bitchy asking that, generally interested.
If by 4 days you want to go back to work, surely you want more to life?
Got to say I do sometimes struggle with just chillin out it's weird for me, did an 8 mile walk yesterday with my youngest dog and have other walks planned, honestly it does astonish me that people can't just go and take a walk because it's surprising what can be on someone's doorstep even if that doorstep takes 1 mile mile to step off to get into the countryside, it really does make a difference just been outside as I'm sure you know.

Sorry, probably not explained well enough. Lol.

It's more about hours available to work due to childcare. It's just us two as only family available for help is 120 miles away.

She thinks shift work would allow better childcare routine on my days off etc over summer.

She thinks PAYE would be better for regular non weather dependent income but I have enough work to be better than any PAYE.

She's not worked full time in 7 years so that's the reason my hours have been down. Not managed 30+ hours a week since June it would seem looking at income over those months.

I put prices up in April this year and round valuation and income forecast on George would be fine it's more practical ways to work more hours around childcare/partners work as she's only got finite annual leave. It's been the bone of contention since she took on full time work it's affected my working hours. £18 breakfast club or £18 for after school club and about £110 for full day during school hols and if it's a washout it's money wasted. That's the quandary.

Just need to knuckle down and work 40+ hours when lighter nights come and or weekends. In a few years they'll be latch key kids and can fend for themselves lol ??
@Mattymarske You are in a similar boat to me. Family live well over 100 miles away. Kids clubs and after school things cost a fortune. My wife stayed home when the kids were little and now she works with me a bit. Luckily we can get most work done inbetween school runs etc and then in the better months I go back out after and do a few jobs then. I worked out that if I earn more than a PAYE job (including holidays, bank holidays etc) and factoring in some poor weather, then I'm already better off, but I totally understand people who don't think like that and think you are better off in an office or factory job maybe. I've done jobs before that meant I work between Christmas and New year, and I have a few scheduled in late next week. As long as the customer doesn't mind then definitely go and work. It also takes the sting out of starting in January as loads of people I know have about 10 or 11 days off now, but then they hate going back. If you have already been working you won't mind so much. Happy Christmas to you and your family mate.

I too struggle to chill out. I take several pills as I have extreme hypertension so like to keep myself busy.
Strangely the only thing that puts me in a really relaxed state is fishing, so I try to get down the lakes as much as possible.
Mind you, laying on my sun bed typing this tripe is fairly relaxing ?

I used to work Christmas just had Christmas Day Boxing Day and new year day off work the rest as my wife worked in retail so I used to just crack on used to get loads of tips and bottles of wine etc too customers allways said surprised to see me but no one ever turned me away but I don’t text to let them know I’m due unless i need access gats etc

Seriously work or don't work but is 3 days really gonna make much difference to your finances?

I'm sure your customers will be fine mate.supermarket workers and gym staff only have the odd day off over Xmas as well as loads of other people.
Personally I don't work in between and have at least 10 or 11 days off

I personally will be working over that period but I'm away in Thailand for a month at the end of January so trying to get as ahead as I can before then

I'd recommend doing whatever works best for you. Some customers will appreciate it, some wont. Just like how some window cleaners would work, some wouldn't, it's all down to you and what works best for you.

Wednesday looks a right off weather wise- 45mph winds, heavy rain and snow in Scotland. Enjoy Boxing Day just that bit more. ?? @spruce are you doing one of the local Boxing Day Dips tomorrow?! ?

?
No chance. ?

If I was in the southern hemisphere on the east coast of Africa or Australia I most certainly would go for a swim and a day on the beach. I do miss that.

I'm not into cold water and ice baths.

Our Saltburn beach lost it clean beach status due to sewage pollution last year. This would put me off even if I was a dedicated cold water swimmer.

I've got some work to do on the van today with the weather turning bad tomorrow.

Need to change a headlight bulb which means both sides need doing. It means taking the headlights out. To get those out trim panels need to be removed. Always need to be careful as I don't want to break any of those plastic trim panels.

While the left headlight is out, I'll change the fuel filter as I can gain better access. I also need to attend to the engine to body earth strap which is easier done with the headlamp out.

When changing the front discs and pads a couple of weeks ago, I noticed a damaged caliper boot. I ordered the part so that has to be changed. Trouble is, I can't remember if it on the left or right side. ?

I also need to do some maintenance work on our wfp equipment.
