Once the event has happened there is no escaping the consequences you can’t shut up shop and think it will all go away
I doubt he thinks it is going away but nothing stopping someone doing a runner to another country away from extradition people have been doing it for decades.

It would be appalling for the family who have had a relative die because of someone's greed and blatant negligence

Yes and in the worst cases it’s a charge of corporate manslaughter if someone dies I certain don’t want to cast any aspersions in this case as I don’t have all the facts but have first hand known of similar situations ware ones have been charged with this when an employee dies and it’s not always just large firms that end up in court on theses charges many small businesses etc have be bankrupt buy the fines and owners imprisoned

Interesting thread. Always make me wonder what would happen if someone tripped over a hose on the pavement, banged their head and killed themselves... what would the outcome of that be? It's on a public path and surely the responsibility lands on the owners shoulders, insurance wouldn't cover it as it's negligent. I don't have hoses on pavements but I've seen lots that do and often thought they wouldn't have a leg to stand on if someone tripped over.

Seen a lot of things that the owner would most likely be liable if anything went wrong.

Put out warning signs about trailing hoses. It might not stop someone from tripping but at least you did your best to alert people of the hose. Also use brightly coloured hose, again to to do your best to highlight the hose.

Yes that would probably be classed as not being negligent, but personally I've never seen any signs out. The latest one was this week, a two man operation, van parked on left side of the road, a well used through road of an estate. Van doors were left open, one hose was trailing to the left across a pavement and to the houses on the left, the other hose was going across the road, across the opposite pavement to the houses on the right, no signs and no signs whatsoever. I see things like this often and in my opinion they are leaving themselves open to a liable claim should anything 'out of the ordinary' go wrong, and although it might be unlikely it doesn't mean nothing will ever go wrong like the guy being talked about can now vouch for.

I'm guilty of not putting out warning signs as well.
When we did our nvq, they did stress the need to put out warning signs. I had to replace the signage on ours as they said it didn't include a warning to beware of objects falling from height.

I do put out 2 warning cones, on the pavement, 1 close to road side and the other by the property side of pavement. The hose lays in between the cones so anyone has to pass the cone before reaching the hose. The cones don't say anything about stuff falling from height, just trailing hoses and window cleaning in progress.
Maybe I have just lived in iffy areas but I would never work with my van doors open. It would be too easy for someone to just walk off with a pole or brush etc, just not worth the risk.

We use cones etc on commercial jobs but not on domestics , not going to speak to soon but never had a problem with anyone tripping over it but using floor rollers in the van and hot water the hose is always flat and on the ground and we do make sure we don't leave coils of hose on a pavement or road it’s always in straight lines , it becomes a way of life after a while and part of your working routine to check its ok

I think that complacency is the problem. Like you say 'you've never had a problem'... well the guy who's employee died would probably have said before the accident something along the lines of 'in 10 years of working like this we've never had a problem...' the problem came in the 11th year.

This is the thing with health and safety. Nothing should ever be a problem but it's for us to take the necessary precautions just in case there is a problem. Same with everything we do.

I have to constantly remind myself to slow down when I'm getting the step ladders out. It's so easy to just be trying to get through the work quickly but some things are just not worth the risk and quickly positioning the step ladder and running up it without considering what's around it is an easy thing to do when it's the same thing month in month out.

It sounds boring and probably over the top in some instances but when things go wrong and they often do as we all hear about window cleaners having accidents, well those people would likely say to not take risks as it's not worth it.

Very easy to become complacent.

For a recent commercial contract I've had to buy and use 4 warning cones. I'll be keeping 2 in the van for domestic work I'm thinking. Easiest would be a couple of magnetic ones I could put on the back and side of van but I suppose might not be described as being visible.

I could never work with van doors open as too much gear that could be lifted. When you see cleaners with both back doors open you think where's all your other gear for trad/gutters, spare brushes but when I talk to some.of them they don't carry all that extra stuff lol. Maybe I'm a tackle tart so to speak. Luckily most public don't realise the cost of poles, brushes etc unlike power tools where a scally could have a field day in an unlocked van. My hose reel sits on the road behind van with doors locked/closed at least if working next to it.

I always wince when I see back doors open on windy days and public walking by, so easy for a door to swing past it's locking point and do some real damage. It's happened when I've been in other jobs luckily on sites with no public but catches you unaware sometimes.

I treated myself to a hi viz hose over xmas. I know sad
:ROFLMAO: but its amazing the amount of my custys who have straight away commented on how bright they are so they obviously do the job and it makes me feel more reassured that I have gone about my work in the safest way possible. I use 3 cones also.

This is the norm, there is more chance of them getting something nicked from the van leaving the doors open.

I could put a cone at the front and back of my van but that would be it, I couldn't be carrying cones around with me up to 100 metres from the van the decent cones as I have are heavy so they don't blow over in the wind I stopped using them years ago after stopping most commercial jobs, a bloke with a white stick has stepped over my hose when I offered to move it anyone who is going to trip over a bright red hose on a tarmac pavement needs there eyes testing and there common sense

I'm the same, just someone lifting my toolbox out of my van with tools and multiple spares would be a headache and costly to replace, never mind lifting a pole out of the van which would be £100's to replace, not just some scally though looking to make some quick money I wouldn't trust another cleaner either especially the state of some I see so my van is always locked

Coulby Newham still available?

A few days ago he said it's all been sold now

Interestingly, I saw a transit van with Teesside window cleaning drive past on our estate yesterday while I was talking to the neighbour across the road.

Sorry but there is a few people on here talking like they know the 100% story when this is not the case at all... died cos of the companys neglect? If this was the case then i would be grtting done for it but sorry this is not the case ! for example people like @spruce u may know 20% of the story but do u know the other 80% ? No u dont , U even claim I had 1,000ltr IBC tanks in all my vans which is false :| if i had 1,000 ltr tanks in the vans then the van would be overloaded when full , U can speculate and share your opinions fair enough... but do u know the 100% ins and outs and the facts ? No u dont but your opinions are way off the full story of what u think but im happy to give u a all a little insight to u all of the details below.... cos i know i have a good few lovers/haters on here.....

i am 100% clear and not being prosecuted like the majority of u think so on here .... I know i got a lot of haters on here and a lot of people who hope the worst for me on here... over the years ive experienced a lot of hate on here but 50% was part of my own doing but im 33 now i am not 22 anymore like i once was.. but yeah ive grown up a lot guys im not a kid no more , i got banned of here a few times years ago cos of my attitude but these things happen in life and sorry if i upset anyone on here in the past it was just me being a keyboard warrior i guess? Lol a lot of u see me as a cheeky person i once was but them days are long gone, me getting fined 100k or me going to jail or me whatever else u lot been thinking.... sorry guys your dreams have been crushed :( awhhhh but to be honest i did get arrested and interviewed and was released without any further enquiries...

awhhhh but to be honest i worked alongside the health and safety executive for 3/4 months, straight after the tragic accident and i can confirm that they are looking to bring a law out for reach and wash systems, but to be honest there was a lot more to this nasty accident than health and safety but i dont need to reveal that on here as thats not my thing to say.... i have a lot of respect for the other partys family but certain things do not need to be discussed on a public forum but the lad who passed away was a very good mate of mine and it was very heart breaking and effected me mentally and i am still in recovery phase of my mental well being till this day due to that accident, it was an accident at a bad time and a bad place, may the lad rest in peace he was an amazing soul ❤️ he was 100% the best lad out of all my lads aswell, like he was a level above the rest of the staff....he was my number 1 at everything out of all the staff, we got on so well and i wont remember the day me and him went to the casino together it was an amazing night he was a top mate that will never be forgotten, the last time i entered a casino was with him.... i been offered and tempted to go to the casino but i say no cos the fact that the last time i went to the casino was with him... might sound weird but yeah thats how i am , last time i entered a casino was with my top mate Andy ❤️ gone but never forgotten its true... god always takes the good ones first :( :( The lads family and friends all know me and get on with me with mutual respect for one another but then on the other hand u got people like spruce who think they know a lot when infact they are 80% clueless and should speak to me first instead of speculating online... !!! A man of his age should know better ! Lol , @spruce you live within 10 miles from me mate !! Why not pop in for a curry and chappati and get to know the full story instead of speculating on this forum... come on mate !! Your welcome over mine anytime.

I gave up my business not because i got stripped of my assets like @spruce thinks... i gave it up cos my love for the business shattered... my heart was not in it no more... 11 years of this business was a long time but the accident really did take the love of the business out of my heart.... but it also ruined me mentally i was sick and stressed(sick and stressed is an under statement) with the business before the accident but when this tragic unfortunate accident happened it sealed the deal for me to shut up shop... i was planning on keeping the window cleaning supplies store open but my heart was telling me no... it wanted a 100% exit , i had a few close people telling me not to give up on the business that i worked gard for all my life but i had to give it up cos my heart was sick and i needed to be free, having a business is like a relationship.... its like being married.... and i really wanted a divorce , my heart went from 80% in the business literally to 0% overnight, I would just stay in bed for months and mentally i was at rock bottom , I had no desire to work , my hunger and determination just died, it also effected my personal relationships and my well being severely i cant really discuss but it hit me hard i fell out with my family i split up with my fiance of 6 years etc i was sleeping in the depot(the supplies shop) and not eating for days all depressed , everything happened at once but today am in recovery phase for my mental well being and hopefully i recover fully by the end of the year so i can continue with my life... the last year has been more tough for me than ever... ive probs learnt more in the past year than i had in all my years previous , but the start of this month(May) thinks have started to improve a lot for mentally dramatically which is a good sign hence why today i have the strength to write an essay and make a post.. my mental health today is 50% better than it was 60 days ago. And id say im at 55% today working my way back up

The 11 years ive served in the window cleaning trade have gone so fast.... it feels like yesterday when i started up the business.... time goes so fast and if anyone wants to grow there window cleaning business then please feel free to contact me(i will tell u every honest tips and tricks of the trade - spruce calls it the asian way - i call it the pakey way ;) ) hehe :)

When i started my business i did not plan to go to 7-8 vans.... with so many staff , my plan was to work by myself but i started adding extra vans and staff as the business kept growing and i did not want to hinder the growth of the business. But the deep down truth is i could not of grown my business without this forum... this forum was the key to my growth... without this forum i would not of scaled so fast.... so thank u to everyone on here, it really means a lot and i could not of built a succesful business without any of your contributions so respect to u all ❤️❤️

The poor soul that was taken away had booked a holiday in Thailand (was supposed to be in Thailand at the date of the accident) but he cancelled it a few weeks before the accident due to finance issues... I wish i had paid for his holiday so he would of been in Thailand at the time of the accident and would still be with us today :( :( i just wish he had went on holiday so he would still be here today messaging me about boxing, i really miss him the most when boxing is on cos he loved boxing, he knew his boxing so well if i wanted to know a boxers history or something instead of going on google or boxrec i would just ask him, he was like the boxing wikipedia.

May Allah give grant him the highest level of jannah in the hereafter , InshAllah

Oh and spruce u said in 1 post that im going into ICT to do fraud again... haha not at all just keep in mind that i started my business at the age of 21 purely to keep myself out of trouble.... but ive always had an entrepreneurial side inside myself if i didnt start a window cleaning business at the age of 21 i would of been involved in a big time illegal fraud scaled up platform, i was disciplined to start my business and work hard for 11 years when i had opportunities to make mega money... put it this way i made the most money in my life from 16-20 years of age than i did ever with 7-8 vans.... crime does pay this is why we have so many criminals but is it a way of life? No its not and its not a way of living hence why i chose to run a legitimate business. I wanted to do something in life which my parents would be proud of, and the last thing they would be proud of is fraud, But a lot of criminals choose this path cos the justice system is a joke... I was a bigtime hacker/fraudster from 11-20 years old... yes i started at 11 years old... education was never for me. Put it this way i used to make £50 per day in school when i was 13 year old from my friends... they would pay me £50 for virtual items 1 day then the next day i would make a sale of £20 and then the day after i would do £30 ETC , on a game called habbo, as a kid i would hack virtual items on habbo and then go into school and sell the virtual items for real money , i then retired and started hacking xbox accounts and fifa ultimate team and then i retired and went on to the bigger scale to ebay and paypal.... if i didnt start my window cleaning business i would of went on to further illegal heights but i thought about my family and was i daft enough to continue the fraud after 20 years of age? No i wasnt... hence the opening of my legitimate business , when i started my window cleaning i had a lot of ideas for a new business start up but the main 2 ideas were starting my own paintless dent renoval business or window cleaninh but in the end it was the window cleaning that got the nod... , im 33 now i would never do anything illegal , but to be honest I could do fraud today and make 20k a month... honestly... i still get people who know me well - saying to me @Harun plz put me on to something(as in a fraud lead so they can make money illegally) " "i am poor and i need to make money and if u help me out i will pay u back... " i tell them NO... cos i am playing part in criminal activity and what goes around comes around ... if i put u on to this something bad will happen to me cos i believe in karma... i get pulled up by a lot of friends asking me to lead them on to fraud but i tell them i finished years ago and dont deal in anything like that, the fraud squad (CID @ Kirkleatham all know me well they even said to me i am a very clever bright lad with a good brain , DC cook DC petric admire me for stepping out of the illegal activity zone and into the legal zone) at a young age and rate my discipline within myself.

I am only interested in business nothing else, i am looking at opening 2x new businesses in 2025 built from scratch

I class myself as an entrepreneur and dont deal in any illegal activities, The only thing i would change in life is that i should of done a bank robbery at 14 cos if i got caught i would of got a slap on the wrist but if i made it i would of been rich for life ;) hahaaa

Anyways thats enuff for u @spruce and i know your a fan of me deep down ❤️ but honestly if your passing by Southbank anytime feel free to contact me and pop down to mine mate we can have a catch up cos i havent seen u for over 10 years and ill get my mam to make u a proper home made curry with a pipping hot tandoori roti that will tickle ur taste buds if u like spicy food

If anyone wants to keep in touch then plz whatsapp me on 07506 006 006 as i have no purpose to use this forum no longer as i am no longer serving a purpose in the window cleaning trade.

On the other hand @Gavin i am offering u £2,000 to buy this forum, message me if your interested in striking a deal of some sort.

Gav whatsapp me mate on the number above ^^^ we dont even need to tell anyone on here if we go ahead with the deal mate.... cos end of the day its business , and the forum will still run as it is so the members have got nothing to lose the only gain is your pocket, it would be pure business between us, u can still run the forum and be the main admin/operator ill even pay u a monthly fee to run the forum, we can negotiate a deal or something , i will tell u why i want to purchase this forum and when we get talking u will be tempted mate... or maybe u can offer me an alternative? if u need a little cash injection in your life Gav for u and your family or maybe u could do with a holiday for u and your family ?? now is your opportunity mate, on the other hand thanks for building a platform where i have been able to grow my business, without this forum it would not of been possible and i look forward to doing further business with u Gav as u now have a business opportunity not to be missed.... u can refuse or accept but please get in touch with me mate.

Thanks
